Jobber

Jobber setup and monthly support for home service companies

Home Service Guild sets up Jobber for home service companies and then looks after it every month. Setup covers your services and prices, quotes, scheduling, invoices, your team and the move off paper or another program. Monthly support covers automations, quote follow-up, review requests, reports, training for new hires and getting every website and ad lead into Jobber. We are independent of Jobber, and the account stays in your name.

Planning the week on a tablet with a notebook

Still deciding

Deciding whether Jobber is right for you

Whatever software you choose, your office and crews will work in it every day, so the choice deserves a clear look. Tell us how your company quotes, schedules and gets paid. We will tell you plainly whether Jobber suits it, which of its plans carries what you need and where it may fall short. If Housecall Pro or a simpler tool would serve you better, we will say so.

What is Jobber, and how does it help a home service business?

Jobber is field service management software for home and commercial service businesses. It keeps the path from a customer's first request to the final payment in one account: requests from your website, quotes, the schedule for your team, invoices and payments, and messages to your clients. Customers approve quotes, pay deposits and pay invoices online through Jobber's client hub. From the Connect plan up, Jobber also sends quote follow-ups, visit reminders and invoice follow-ups on its own. For an owner, that takes a good share of the evening paperwork off the kitchen table. Nobody retypes a job from a notebook into a spreadsheet, and a quote no longer sits forgotten because no one remembered to chase it.

Who is Jobber a good fit for, and who may not need it?

Jobber suits companies that work at a customer's home or property and want quotes, the schedule and payments in one place, whether the owner still runs every job or there are several crews and an office. It earns its keep fastest where the same customers come back on a schedule, because recurring visits, routes and automatic billing take the most repeat work off your team.

It may be more than you need if you run a handful of jobs a month at one simple price, where a calendar and an invoicing app can carry you for a while. If your trade already runs on specialist software, such as insurance estimating in restoration, you would run Jobber alongside that program, and we would agree with you what lives in each. If you are weighing Jobber against a separate CRM, our article on CRM for contractors explains how the two differ. Either way, we will tell you where your company sits.

Which trades get the most from Jobber?

Jobber lists every trade below among the industries it serves. We have put them in order of how much of the day-to-day work Jobber can carry. Trades with recurring visits on a route come first. Next are trades built on many quick jobs, where a price list, online booking and fast invoicing save the most time. Last come trades built on fewer, larger projects, where quotes with options, deposits and job costing matter most. Each row shows the two or three things we set up first. A few depend on your Jobber plan, job costing and route optimization among them, so check Jobber's pricing page for which plan carries each.

How do lawn care and landscaping companies set up Jobber?

Lawn care and landscaping companies usually set up Jobber around recurring visits and routes. Weekly mowing becomes recurring work with a visit on the schedule each week, routes keep crews from crossing town twice, and seasonal contracts can be billed monthly. Cleanups, mulch and installs are quoted separately, with options. We also set up reminders to past customers ahead of spring and fall. Our landscaping and lawn care page covers the trade.

Is Jobber a good fit for a cleaning business?

Jobber suits most cleaning businesses, and it lists residential, commercial, window and carpet cleaning among the industries it serves. A house cleaning company leans on recurring visits, cleaning checklists, team assignments and a card on file. Window and carpet cleaners rely more on add-ons and rebooking reminders. Commercial cleaners need several properties under one client and monthly invoicing. We set it up around the kind of cleaning you do.

Can Jobber run a snow removal business?

Yes. Jobber lists snow removal among the industries it serves. A snow company can sell seasonal contracts or charge per push, add visits to the schedule when a storm is coming, plan routes for the trucks and invoice every customer after the storm in one batch. We set it up before the first snowfall, because the morning of the first storm is a bad time to be learning new software.

Does Jobber work for mobile detailing?

Yes. Jobber lists auto detailing among the industries it serves. A mobile detailer can offer packages through online booking, ask for a deposit on larger quotes, plan the drive between appointments and remind repeat customers when their next detail is due. We set up your packages and add-ons the way you sell them, so a customer can book the right service without having to phone you.

Getting Jobber set up right

The first weeks on Jobber shape how your team uses it long after, because settings chosen in a hurry tend to stay, and so do the habits built around them. We set up the account with you from the start, around the way your company already quotes, schedules and gets paid. Then we test it with real jobs and train your office and crews online.

What does Jobber setup from Home Service Guild include?

Jobber setup covers everything between signing up and your first busy week on the system. We map how a job moves through your company today. Then we work with you and your team to build your services and prices, quote and invoice templates, request form, online booking, reminders, team roles and schedule. We test the account with real jobs from your business, fix what the test turns up and train your office and field team in live online sessions.

What Jobber setup covers, step by step

Our Jobber setup follows six steps. What goes into each step depends on your trade, your team and the way you price.

  1. Map how a job moves today. We follow one recent job from the first call to the final payment and note each place it waited or someone typed the same details twice.
  2. Company, services and prices. Your services and price list, taxes, quote and invoice templates, and job forms and checklists, written in the words your crews already use.
  3. Requests, quotes, jobs and invoices. The request form and online booking, quote follow-ups, visit reminders, invoice follow-ups, online payments from the invoice, and the client hub, where customers approve quotes, pay deposits and pay invoices.
  4. Your team. Users and permissions by role, the schedule, routes and time tracking, so each person sees what their part of the job needs.
  5. Test before go-live. We run real jobs from your business through the account and fix whatever the test turns up before your team depends on it.
  6. Training. Live online Jobber training for the office and the field on your own account, plus recorded walkthroughs your team keeps. All training is online.

What happens before anything is built in Jobber?

Before anything is built, we look at how work moves through your company today. Together we take one recent job and follow it from the first call or web form to the final payment, noting who handled it, where it waited and where someone retyped the same details. You then get a written plan listing what we will build, in what order, and what we need from you.

How long does Jobber setup take?

Jobber setup takes as long as your records, your price list and your team require, so we do not promise a number of days up front. A two-person company with a clean client list will move faster than a crew of twenty leaving an old program. You get a written plan with the steps and their order before any work starts, and you choose the go-live date.

Jobber offers its own onboarding help. Why would we need you?

You may not, and Jobber's own help is a good place to start. Its First Steps guides walk you through the basic setup, and its support team can book training sessions for your staff. The Plus plan also includes unlimited onboarding with a dedicated specialist. Our work starts from your company: we decide with you how quotes, follow-up and scheduling should run inside Jobber, then connect it to your website, ads and calls. Where Jobber's onboarding comes with your plan, we work alongside it.

Who owns the Jobber account when you set it up?

You do, in your company's name, from the first day. Every setting, template, client record and report stays inside your account. We work in it with access you give us, and you can remove that access at any time. If you ever stop working with us, the account, its history and everything we built in it stay with you.

Moving to Jobber

Moving your business to Jobber

Most of the work in a move to Jobber is deciding what comes with you and getting it there clean. We plan the move with you, tidy your customer list on the way and bring your records over from paper, spreadsheets or another program. On the first day, your office opens Jobber and finds the customers it expects.

Owners worry most about losing their customer history when they switch. Years of clients, addresses, past jobs and notes sit in the old program, a set of spreadsheets or a filing cabinet. That history tells your office who to call back and what was done at each house. We plan the move to Jobber around keeping it and cleaning it up on the way.

Can Jobber import our customer list?

Yes. According to Jobber's help center, it can import clients from a CSV spreadsheet file, sync them from QuickBooks Online, or bring them in from QuickBooks Desktop. The QuickBooks Online sync starts on Jobber's Connect plan. Before any import, we decide with you which source holds your most current records, sort out duplicates and match your columns to Jobber's fields. After the import, we check the records with you.

What happens to our old jobs and quotes when we switch?

Your client list comes over most cleanly. Jobber's help center says it can also import jobs and quotes from a spreadsheet, including past jobs from the last ten years, which arrive marked complete. It lists the job import as a beta and does not describe bringing over old invoices or visit history. Whatever cannot be imported, we agree with you how to keep, whether as notes on the client record, a file attached to it or an archive of the old system you keep for reference. Nothing gets dropped without your say.

How do we move over from paper records?

Moving from paper starts with deciding which records matter going forward. That usually means active clients, addresses, open quotes and any recurring work. The ten-year-old invoices can stay in the filing cabinet. We agree the list with you, get it into a clean spreadsheet and import it. Then your recurring visits and open quotes are set up in Jobber, so nothing already promised to a customer gets lost in the move.

Can you move us from Housecall Pro to Jobber, or the other way?

Yes, in either direction. We set up both programs, so we plan the move around what the old account can export and how the new one will be built. If you are going from Jobber to Housecall Pro, our page on switching to Housecall Pro covers that move. Either way, training happens online and the new account is in your name.

On Jobber a while

Getting more from the Jobber you already have

We start with a review of your Jobber account: what is working, what never got built and where quotes and jobs are slipping. Then we connect your website, ads and calls to it and look after it every month, so the account keeps up as your company changes.

A Jobber account starts to drift soon after go-live. Prices change, people leave and join, a new service gets added, and the automations still say what they said in March.

Our Jobber account is set up, but we barely use it. Can you help?

Yes. We start from the account you have, keep what works and finish what never got built, whether that is the price list, quote follow-ups, reminders, the request form or lead sources. Then we train your team on the finished account, online, and support it each month so it does not slide back.

What do monthly Jobber services include?

Monthly Jobber services keep the account working after setup. Each month we check and adjust your automations, make sure open quotes are being followed up, look after review requests, send you one short report in plain language and train anyone new on your team. We also choose one improvement for the month with you, aimed at wherever work is slipping most. You see what changed and why.

Which Jobber automations do you build and look after?

We build and look after the automations that keep work moving without anyone having to remember: quote follow-ups, visit reminders, invoice follow-ups and review requests. Where your company needs a rule of its own, we build a custom one. Every message is written in your voice before it goes out. Automated follow-ups and reminders start on Jobber's Connect plan, and the custom automation builder starts on Grow.

How do you make sure open quotes get followed up in Jobber?

Every open quote gets an owner and a next step. Automatic follow-ups go out on a schedule you approve. Quotes that deserve a personal call, often the larger jobs, are flagged for the person who walked the property. Each month we go through the quotes still open with you and decide which get a fresh follow-up and which close out, so the list shows where every quote really stands.

How do you get more reviews from Jobber?

We set Jobber to ask for a review on your Google Business Profile when the customer is most likely to be pleased, such as after the visit is done or the invoice is paid. Each request is written in your voice. Each month we check that requests are going out and that new reviews get a reply. Jobber's review requests are part of its Marketing Suite, which comes with the Plus plan and is a paid add-on on the others.

What reports do we get each month?

You get one short report each month, written in plain language for an owner. It shows the inquiries that came in, quotes sent and won, jobs done, money collected and where the work came from, so you can see which marketing brings in paying customers. Job costing, which shows what each job actually earned after labor and materials, comes with Jobber's Grow and Plus plans.

How do new hires get trained on our Jobber account?

New hires learn on your own account through recorded walkthroughs made for their role. A technician learns what the app needs from them on a job, and the office learns requests, quotes and invoices. When someone joins, we also run a live online session with them. Your team keeps every recording, so the next person to join starts from the same place.

What does one improvement month look like?

Each month we choose one thing to make better, aimed at wherever your company is losing the most work right now. One month it might be a separate follow-up for quotes over a certain size. Another month it might be online booking for a service customers keep phoning about. You agree the choice before we start, and the monthly report shows what changed.

Connecting your website, ads and calls to Jobber

Jobber only sees the leads that reach it. We also run marketing for home service companies, so we set Jobber up to show which ads, searches and referrals turn into paid jobs. Related services: Google Ads, Facebook and Instagram ads, lead follow-up, follow-up after the job and lead generation.

How do website requests and online bookings reach Jobber?

We put Jobber's request form or online booking on your website and decide with you which services customers can book and how soon. Each request lands in Jobber with the details the customer typed. The lead source can come from a "How did you hear about us?" question on the form or from tracking tags on the link, so your office works from one list and knows where each request started. Booking offers only the services you choose, at times your team has open.

Can Google Local Services Ads book straight into Jobber?

Yes, if your trade qualifies. Jobber's integration lets a customer book a job or an assessment straight into your Jobber schedule from your Local Services Ad, and Jobber says it adds no fee of its own. Local Services Ads run in the US for select trades, and Google sets the price of each lead. We set up Google Local Services Ads for home service companies, so we set up the ads and the connection together and check that each lead arrives with its source attached.

How do we know which ads bring in paid jobs, not just clicks?

We connect Jobber to your analytics and your ad accounts, so a paid job can be traced back to the ad or search that started it. Jobber's request and booking forms send an event to Google Analytics each time one is submitted. A completed job can be sent back to Google Ads through Zapier, which Jobber offers on select plans. The ads that bring in paying customers then get the budget, and the ones that only bring clicks get cut.

What about phone calls and texts?

Phone leads carry their source too. We set up call tracking, so a call from an ad, your Google Business Profile or your website is recorded with where it came from, and the office logs the caller in Jobber as a request. Two-way texting with customers is on select Jobber plans, and Jobber's AI Receptionist comes with Plus and is a paid add-on on the other plans.

How Jobber fits the four jobs

Jobber or Housecall Pro: the short version

Jobber and Housecall Pro both schedule crews, send quotes and invoices, take payments and ask for reviews. They differ in how the plans are arranged, which features sit on which plan, and how each one handles marketing tools and recurring work. Our Jobber vs Housecall Pro comparison sets the two side by side without declaring a winner. We set up and support either one, and our Housecall Pro pages show what we build in that account.

Do you earn anything if we choose one or the other?

Questions owners ask about Jobber setup and support

Who can set up Jobber for my home service business?

Home Service Guild sets up Jobber for home service companies, and you can also do the basics yourself with Jobber's own guides. If you are looking for a Jobber consultant to build the account with you and keep it working, that is the work we do. We build Jobber around how your company quotes, schedules and gets paid, connect it to your website and ads, train your team online and support it every month. The account stays in your name.

Can we set up Jobber ourselves?

Many owners set up the basics themselves with Jobber's free First Steps guides and help from its support team. For a small company with simple pricing, that can be enough. Outside help earns its keep when you are moving years of records, quoting many services or running several crews. It also helps when you want Jobber connected to your marketing, so you can see which leads become paid jobs. When you set it up yourself, a doubt sits in the back of your mind that something was missed. Setup mistakes tend to stay quiet until a busy stretch, and by the time one shows itself, it has already cost you work.

How much does Jobber setup cost?

That depends on the size of the work: how many records you are moving, how many services you price and how many people need training. You get a written plan and price before any work starts. Our How we quote page explains how we price our work.

Which Jobber plan do we need?

That depends on what you want the account to do. Jobber's plans are Core, Connect, Grow and Plus. Automated follow-ups and the QuickBooks Online sync start on Connect, and job costing starts on Grow. Plans and prices change, so check Jobber's pricing page for the current list. You choose the plan, and we build within it.

Do we still need QuickBooks if we use Jobber?

Usually, yes. Most owners keep QuickBooks for the books and use Jobber for quotes, jobs, invoices and payments. Jobber syncs with QuickBooks Online on its Connect plan and above, so invoices and payments reach your accounting without retyping. Your accountant should decide how the two are set up, and we work with them on the sync.

Do you train our team in person?

No. All of our Jobber training is online. We run live sessions for your office and your field team on your own account, and your team keeps recorded walkthroughs for new hires and refreshers.

Are you part of Jobber?

No. Home Service Guild is independent of Jobber. We work for you, inside the Jobber account you pay for and own.
